Practice Activities: More Than a Worksheet

Ever want students up and moving instead of staring at another worksheet, but not have time to build an activity from scratch?

Every Math Beach middle school unit includes a practice activity for every lesson in both print and digital formats.

Mystery pictures, scaffolded tasks, partner checks, scavenger hunts, riddles, and more!

Hi, I'm Allison from Math Beach, and I want to show you one of my favorite parts of the Grade 8 curriculum: a practice activity for every single lesson.

Why Practice Activities Matter

If you've ever watched a class groan at "one more worksheet" on a concept they just learned, you know that engagement matters as much as content. But building an activity from scratch for every lesson isn't realistic on top of everything else on your plate.

That's why every Grade 8 lesson includes a ready-to-use activity. It’s already designed, with an answer key, and available in both print and digital form.

This means you can:

  • Give students a reason to engage with practice instead of dreading it

  • Assign print or digital versions of the practice, increasing student choice while offering identical practice opportunities

  • Use the print version as a recording sheet for around-the-room activities or digital tasks (which works well for students who struggle with transferring from screen to paper)

  • Reclaim your planning time and add novelty to your routine

Choose Your Practice Path

Whether you need extra practice, a change of pace, or both, the practice activity aligns with the practice worksheet from the lesson. They reinforce key concepts from the same lesson.

Assign practice activities, practice worksheets, or both for extra repetition.

A Variety of Formats

  • Maze: students solve their way through; only correct answers lead to the end

  • Color by Answer / Mystery Picture: a picture reveals itself as problems are solved correctly

  • Scaffolded Task: built-in support for multi-step problems

  • Partner Check: two students solve independently and confirm matching answers

  • Riddle: solving problems unlocks the answer to a riddle

  • Scavenger Hunt / Around-the-Room: students move to solve problems posted around the classroom, using a recording sheet to show work

Built-In Accommodations

Every activity includes Version A and Version B, so an alternate version of the assignment is already done. Many versions are designed for emerging learners vs. content mastery, or focus on complementary skills.

Print versions double as recording sheets for students who need a physical copy of the problem in front of them instead of copying from a card or the board.
